Scheduled Zone Events

OCT. 2nd - It's official! And how I've been wanting to announce this for months, though I couldn't until just now. I've heard from the people at Walt Disney World, Florida special events office, and it's a go -- I'll be signing books at the gift shop at the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction on Oct. 2, the precise fiftieth anniversary of The Twilight Zone's premiere on CBS. In fact, it's actually a Friday, the same day of the week that the show originally played. How cool is that? The precise times have not yet been set, and that will be decided by the people at Disney. I'll let you know more specifics as soon as they tell me. But if you happen to live in Florida, or if you are planning an autumn trip there, I'd love to see as many old friends as possible. It will be at the Disney-MGM movie park.

1)  Tuesday, August 11:

This is the date that all Zone/Serling fans have beeneagerly anticipating - the United States Postal Stamp commemorating Rod and his great gifts as a writer willbe given its first day of issue - and the ceremony will be held in Binghamton NY, where Rod grew up after his family moved there from Syracuse when he was still a child. All those small hometowns in the great ZONE episodes are inspired by Binghamton. I've been invited by the U.S. post office to attend all the events and sign books at them. The day will begin at the FORUM THEATRE (236 Washington St.) I'm scheduled to be there to meet and greet people at ten a.m. There will be various radio stations and other media present doing radio trivia tests and that sort of thing. Should be a great deal of fun. The events will start promptly at 10:30 a.m. run until around twelve noon. Then there will be a brief lunch break. At approximately one p.m., I'm scheduled to be at the post office, once again greeting fans of Rod and signing books - I should be there until about three or three thirty p.m. The final event will be at the Riverread bookstore in Binghamton, located at 5 Court St. At seven p.m., I'll be giving a (free, of course!) presentation that I think you will enjoy if you can make it. I'm going to show
the first ever episode of ZONE, "Where is Everybody?" it's considered a classic, but Rod was never happy with his script, and while it was filming he was constantly trying to figure out "what was missing" - the extra "bit" that would give his story the final "kick" that it required. on the night when it ran - Oct. 2, 1959, Rod was watching and, as he watched, IT HIT HIM - he knew just what he SHOULD have added. But it was too late, of course - the film was 'in the can,' and that was that.
However, he would apply the lesson that he learned to all future Zone scripts. I'm one of the few people he ever told as to what that missing ingredient was, and in a discussion with everyone who attends, I'll reveal it. Think you'll have fun. Any books that we still have left from the earlier sales can be purchased and autographed then, but the event itself is of course free of charge.

2)  Wednesay, August 12:
I'm scheduled to be a guest once again on the Dennis Miller National Radio Show. Dennis begins the show each morning from L.A. at eight a.m. live, and I'm currently scheduled to be the first guest, though the line-up can always change. (and if some important news story should break, don't be surprised if I get bumped to a later date, though as of right now we're all set to go.) This means I'll be on the air live some time shortly after ten a.m. Texas time and eleven a.m. New York time. We're scheduled to talk about a host of things, including the previous day's post office stamp ceremony, "The Robert De Niro Story" that I did for The Biography Channel, and a preview of the upcoming Disney film with the first ever Disney African-American princess. We'll get into some of my other upcoming books too hopefully if time allows. Do note that in some cities/markets in America, the show is broadcast live, but in others it is taped and played at different hours. Check your local listings. Also, if you miss the show, or if it is not carried in your market but you want to hear it, do recall that this is the Internet era, so you can always go to Dennis Miller Radio on the Internet any time after that, as it will be stored there for playback.
